Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Failure

Stage 4 chronic kidney failure indicates advanced kidney damage with a severe decrease in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) to 15-30ml/min. If progresses continuously, stage 4 kidney failure will develop to end stage where patients may have to begin dialysis or do kidney transplant.

As kidney function declines, waste products build up in the blood, resulting in a condition known as “uremia”. In stage 4 kidney failure, patients are more likely to develop various complications such as bone disease, cardiovascular diseases, anemia and high blood pressure. Besides, patients may have the following symptoms:

● Fatigue

● Swelling or edema

● Urination changes such as proteinuria and hematuria

● Nausea and vomiting

● Taste changes like a metallic taste in your mouth

● Bad breath or uremic breath

● Loss of appetite

● Difficulty in concentrating

● Symptoms in nerve system

In stage 4 chronic kidney failure, more than 70% of kidney functioning cells are damaged in different degrees, of which some are just damaged but some others are necrotic completely. Therefore, patients will usually visit their doctor at least every three months. Blood test for creatinine, BUN, hemoglobin, calcium, potassium and phosphorus levels will be done to see how well their kidneys are working.

After examining the patient and analyzing the results of lab tests, doctors will make an accurate treatment plan for their patient. The goals of the treatment is to cleanse patients’ blood and repair the damaged but not necrotic kidney cells. Only if the blood circulation is normalized can remaining kidney function be preserved and complications be controlled successfully, while restoring damaged kidney cells is the only way to improve patients’ kidney function.

The key of the achievement to these goal is to select a correct and effective treatment. Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy and Immunotherapy is worth a try according to patients’ illness condition. Besides, some assistant natural remedies, such as massage, acupuncture, cupping and medicated bath may also be applied.

Also, someone in stage 4 chronic kidney failure had better be referred to a dietitian, because diet is so important to improve patients’ overall health as well as kidney condition. Usually, patients should pay attention to the following tips:

● Reduced amount of protein to help decline the burden on kidneys

● A low-sodium diet

● Limited intake of phosphorus and potassium if blood tests indicate they are higher than normal

● Vitamin C may be limited to 100mg per day from supplements

● Nutritions like vitamin A and some minerals may not be recommended

As long as patients take a correct medical treatment and a healthy diet plan, they can find a great difference about their health and kidney condition.
