Stage 1 and 2 CKD

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) progresses slowly. In stage 1 CKD, patients still have normal kidney function with glomerular filtration rate (GFR) at high level no less than 90ml/min. In stage 2 CKD, patients have mildly reduced kidney function and their GFR ranges from 60 to 89 ml/min. Both stages require other evidence of kidney disease to detect them.

What are the symptoms of stage 1 and 2 CKD?

Stage 1 and 2 CKD is also called early stage kidney disease, because kidneys still do a good job even though they are not functioning 100%. Therefore, most patients in stage 1 or 2 CKD don't have any symptom. Only in some cases, the following symptoms may appear:

● Blood in urine or hematuria

● Protein in urine or proteinuria

● High blood pressure

● Diabetes

Aside from these symptoms, other evidences are also needed to indicate early stage kidney disease. For example, evidence of kidney damage is CT scan, ultrasound, MRI or contrast X-ray, and a family history of Polycystic Kidney Disease.
