An overview of Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease

Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is severely reduced kidney function with glomerular filtration rate (GFR) of 15-29ml/min. As kidney function declines, it can lead to various signs and symptoms. If left alone, stage 4 CKD is more likely to mean patients will have to begin dialysis or kidney transplant in the near future.

What are symptoms of stage 4 CKD?

If one person has this stage of Chronic Kidney Disease, he or she may suffer from the following symptoms:

● Fatigue: Anemia or the build up of uremia toxins both can make patients feel tired all the time.

● Swelling or edema: Severely damaged kidneys will cause fluid or sodium retention, so patients may notice swelling in their hands, lower legs or face around the eyes.

● Urination changes: Urine may be foamy if there is protein in it, or brown, tea colored, dark orange or red if it contains blood. Besides, the person is more likely to urinate more or less than normal, or get up at night to go to the bathroom.

● Back pain: Not all people with kidney disease have back pain. Only in some cases can patients suffer from back pain, for example, Polycystic Kidney Disease and infections.

● Nausea and vomiting: This can be another symptom of stage 4 CKD.

● Loss of appetite: Many patients in this stage may have poor appetite.

● Taste and breath changes: Food may not taste like it usually does or have a metallic taste, and the build up of urea in the blood may cause bad breath.

● Sleep problems: Itching, muscle cramps or restless legs can keep some patients awake, while some people have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep.

● Symptoms in nerve system: Numbness or tingling in the toes or fingers is also a symptom of Chronic Kidney Disease.

● High creatinine and BUN level: Because more than 70% of kidney function is lost, creatinine and BUN level rises obviously.

How long can Chronic Kidney Disease stay in stage 4?

If stage 4 CKD aggravates to stage 5, patients will have to live with dialysis or kidney transplant in the near future. Therefore, how long kidney disease can stay in stage 4 becomes most patients’ concern. However, patients’ medical treatment and lifestyle determines the answer. With correct treatment and healthy lifestyle, some patients stay in stage 4 CKD for more than 20 years, while some others’ condition develops to stage 5 in several weeks because of incorrect treatment or unhealthy lifestyle.

Treatments for stage 4 CKD to avoid dialysis

Here, we recommend two treatment options: Immunotherapy and polluted blood therapy that are suitable for different kidney disease patients.

Immunotherapy: It is mainly used to treat autoimmune diseases that is due to immune complexes depositing in the kidneys such as IgA Nephropathy and Lupus Nephritis. Through removing immune complexes from the body thoroughly and improving the self-repair ability of damaged kidney cells, Immunotherapy can not only purify patients’ blood but also enhance their kidney function.

Polluted blood therapy: This therapy focuses on cleaning polluted blood before treating kidney disease. Because the special link between blood circulation and kidneys, the abnormal blood circulation is the root cause of many kidney diseases. Only if blood circulation is normalized can kidney disease be reversed. (If you are interested about these treatments, you can leave a message to us, and we are glad to share you more information.)
