What Can Cause Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis

2013-09-22 09:41 What Can Cause Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis is a kidney disorder which can cause glomeruloscleosis. Glomerulosclerosis refers that the glomeruli is scarring or hardening. If untreated, it will lead to kidney failure. FSGS mostly occurs without a cause. In this case, it is called primary FSGS. In addition, some other causes can also cause FSGS. Well, in the following we will state the causes of FSGS for you.

1. Decrease of immunity can lead to focal segmental glomerulosclerosis.

Due to decrease of immunity, the pathologic foreign bodies as some type of antigens, will combine with antibody after attacking into human body, and then form immune complexes. The epitopes in the kidneys can attract the immune complex. In this case, the immune complex will flow with blood circulation and deposit in the glomerular capillary loops, which will lead to segmental hyaline degeneration in the epithelial cells of the glomerulus, so the surface of epithelial cells of the glomerulus is desquamation, and the inflammatory medium continues to attack your body, causing the damages of the epithelial cells barrier function. Protein in the blood will leak into urine, and then be removed out of your body. In the meantime, after the epithelial cells get damaged, they will become myofibroblast, leading to glomerular sclerosis, and the process of renal fibrosis begins.

2. Other causes can also lead to focal segmental glomerulosclerosis.

Sickle cell disease

HIV infection

Obesity

Birth defects of the kidneys

In addition to FSGS, the following diseases can also lead to glomerulosclerosis, including

Diabetes

HIV infection

Sickle cell disease

Reflux nephropathy refers that urine flows back into kidney.

Chemicals and medicines that are harmful to the kidneys can also lead to glomerulosclerosis.

The above causes all can lead to glomerulosclerosis, including primary FSGS and secondary FSGS. If you diagnosed with FSGS, the first thing you should do is to know clearly what causes your focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, which means a lot for you to take effective treatment to control it.
