Reasonable diet for Nephrotic Syndrome
For patients with severe edema and hypoalbuminemia, they need to have a good rest on bed, and they can have activity when their illness condition is improved greatly. Patients should be given high-quality protein like lean meat, egg white and fish, which is necessary for patients to recoer. Enough calories should be ensured, which will reduce the consumption of protein. In addition, to reduce the risk of edema and hypertension, the intake of sodium should be limited. To relieve hyperlipemia, foods high in animal fat should be avoid. Besides, try to ingest enough calcium, fiber and vitamin through daily diet.
Treatment for symptoms of Nephrotic Syndrome
To reduce the edema, diuretics like thiazide diuretic, loop diuretics, osmotic diuretic are needed. The use of diuretics should be based on patient’s specific illness condition, and also remember to avoid using too much in one time, which may cause the shortage of blood volume, then it may lead to the formation of thrombus.
To reduce proteinuria, the continuous loss of proteinuria can damage glomeruli and kidney tubules, and cause the damage of kidney function. ACEI and ARB often are used to reduce proteinuria. They are usually used to treat hypertension, but they also have the effect of reducing the internal pressure of glomeruli and directly affecting the permeability of glomerular basement membrane to macromolecule.
Glucocorticoid for Nephrotic Syndrome
In the process of treating the inflammation, glucocorticoid is often used. Glucocorticoid show obvious effects in treating Nephrotic Syndrome, but disappointed, it is not ideal, as it can cause many side effects if used for a long time. Besides, if hormone treatment is not effective enough to bring illness condition under control or Nephrotic Syndrome relapses frequently, cytotoxic drugs can be used as adjuvant treatment. Immunosuppressor is another kind of medicine to be used in Nephrotic Syndrome. It can be used alone, or together with glucocorticoid.
