What Are Common Symptoms Of FSGSFSGS stands for Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis which is a kidney disease that can cause glomerulosclerosis. When you are diagnosed with FSGS, at first, there are usually no obvious symptoms of glomerulosclerosis. However, as time goes on, symptoms can occur and develop. These symptoms include:

Fatigue

Fatigue in FSGS is mainly caused by anemia since the red blood cells account is lower than the reference value. Healthy kidneys can secrete a kind of hormone, called erythropoietin which is responsible for producing enough red blood cells carrying oxygen through our body tissues. However, damaged kidneys are not able to produce enough red blood cells to body, so we usually feel tired or fatigue due to insufficient red blood cells. Other causes usually are related to short life span of red blood cells and iron deficiency.

Swelling

Due to injured kidneys which lose the ability of excreting excessive water from your body, fluid retention will present. In this light, you may have swelling or edema in various parts of your body like around the eyes, face, hands, abdomen and lower legs. Swelling or edema may make you shortness of breath. Besides, the swelling may be painful and also cause rapid weight gain.

Urine changes

You may experience bubbly or foamy urine which is caused by proteinuria. And the root cause of protein in urine is abnormal protein leakage because of impaired glomerular basement membrane. Besides, the color of FSGS patients usually is dark-orange or tea-color. Patients have decreased urine output and even anuria.

High blood pressure

As we all know, the kidney has the function of keeping blood pressure in a stable range. Damaged kidneys fail to regulate your blood pressure. In this condition, your blood pressure easily increases. Besides, with the development of kidney disease, you will have heart problems. In FSGS patients, high blood pressure is difficulty to be under control.

The above are some common symptoms in FSGS. If untreated timely and effectively, they may accelerate the development of FSGS. Therefor, do regular check ups so as to discover FSGS as well as any kidney disease you may have.
